Solo and Ensemble
To support our mission and vision statements, all students are obligated to participate at the Florida Band Association Solo & Ensemble event at John I. Leonard High School on February 2nd and 3rd. Individual practice and performance helps our students self-assess, self-motivate, and become well rounded musicians and individuals. It is also a fantastic way for students to build confidence in their musicianship. The deadline for students to select a Solo or Ensemble piece is November 16th, 2017. The music must be ordered by your student for any solos and small ensembles that they wish to perform. The band has a few selections for duets, trios and will provide the Brass and Woodwind Ensemble music. The deadline to have Solo & Ensemble in hand is November 30th, 2017.
Students are provided optional Solo & Ensemble tutoring and help to choose music on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school starting November 7th, 2017 and ending on December 14th, 2017. Entry dues will be provided for all Brass, Woodwind, Percussion Ensembles (one entry fee included) and Color Guard (one entry fee included), any other entries will cost $7.45-Due December 8th. Any solo and/or small ensemble performing (example: saxophone solo, trumpet duet, clarinet trio) owes a $7.45 fee- Due December 8th. Please make note that if you choose to do a solo, it is a requirement from the Florida Bandmasters Association that you have a piano accompanist-fee applies. The entry fee is a minimal fee for what the students get out of the event. Each student participating in a solo or small ensemble gets individualized feedback and a lesson by a State approved adjudicator. Students are also encouraged to perform their solo or small ensemble on December 13th Christmas Concert. If a student chooses to perform a solo, they will owe an accompanist fee in addition to their $7.45 cent event fee.
Students who choose to participate in Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion Ensembles will have mandatory practices on Tuesdays for Brass and Thursdays for Woodwinds starting January 9th and ending on February 1st from 3:00 to 3:40 pm. All Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion ensemble students are expected to practice music ahead of time, prior to the rehearsals. We will only have 4 short rehearsals to get ready for S&E. All students will be expected to submit a full run performance of their musical selection by January 29th, 2018.
